By Selene Sommers

Nowadays, businesses understand the importance and the need to improve security and one of the ways to do it is to install access control systems in specific areas within the establishment. Turnstiles are the most common options for many businesses today, and there are several turnstile types you can choose from. Before you invest in specific models however, it is important to learn about the different types of turnstile gates available. There are in fact five types of turnstiles, the first called the Tripod turnstiles.

Tripods are the earliest forms of turnstiles, allowing only one person to pass through at a time. This particular type is commonly seen in transport terminals and theatres, and is popular for being durable and affordable. The second type of turnstiles are those that are known for their diverse styles, the swing gate turnstiles. Because of its elegant designs, this type of turnstile is commonly found in modern office buildings.

On the other hand, there is the wing gate turnstile which is a lot like swing gate turnstiles, but faster moving and has more elegant looking designs. Then you have the latest in access control systems, the optical turnstiles with or without barrier systems. This type of turnstile requires a person to use an access card or scan fingerprints into a biometrics panel to be allowed entry.

Those with barriers will not open to someone without prior identification, while units without barriers sound an alarm to notify security personnel of unauthorized entry. Lastly, you have the full height turnstiles, which incorporate the designs of tripod turnstiles and revolving doors. Clearly, if you need an access control system to install in your establishment, you have several options to check out.

Before you decide on a system to invest in, there are a few important tips you have to keep in mind. First, you need to consider the specific type of establishment you have. This is important for you to decide on the type of turnstiles which will suit your business well.

Next, you have to set a budget so you can determine whether you can also look into other solutions like anti-passback enforcement systems. Setting a price range also helps you save a lot of time and effort, because there is no need for you to spend more time going over solutions you cannot afford, anyway. You also need to consider the number of people that pass through your entryways, so you can invest in solutions that'd hold up well with people traffic.
